[Satellite Today 05-20-09] The Russian Satellite Communications Co. (RSCC) awarded Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev (ISS Reshetnev) a contract to build the Express-AM5 and Express-AM6 satellites, RSCC announced May 19.
    RSSC said it selected ISS Reshetnev due to pricing and manufacturing terms for the satellites as well as optimal work quality guarantees. The satellites will be developed by both Reshetnev ISS and Thales Alenia Space.
    The satellites are scheduled for launch into orbit in 2012, with Express-AM5 to be placed at 140 degrees East and Express-AM6 at the 53 degrees East orbital slot. The satellites are designed to provide a range of broadcast services, including digital TV, radio, multimedia services, telephony and mobile communications.
    The operational service time of each satellite is 15 years.
