[Satellite Today 05-07-09] Wegener released its MicroCasting solution, a satellite-delivered radio localization service that tailors national programming to local markets, the company announced.
    The company also is promoting its ShowShifting service, which aims to provide flexible radio programming playback while conserving bandwidth, as a solution package along with MircoCasting. ShowShifting aims to reduce the need for networks to rebroadcast content to accommodate local affiliates.
    Wegener said the offerings move the radio industry a step closer to “station in a box” operations by delivering a workflow of file-based broadcasting and advanced network control through a system of satellite and terrestrial network connections and automation-friendly receivers.
    “MicroCasting is the future of network radio programming. Our file-based broadcasting solutions eliminate inefficient content distribution through the mail and minimize equipment requirements at individual stations,” Ned Mountain, president and COO of Wegener, said in a statement.
