[Satellite Today 04-22-09] Comtech Xicom Technology unveiled its Model XTD-1250KL outdoor traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA), the company announced April 18.
    Comtech Xicom said that the unit is the satcom industry’s first outdoor packaged 1250-watt TWTA designed to operate in the Ku-band uplink frequency. The TWTA enables satellite operators to mount power amplifiers at the antenna and aims to eliminate long waveguide runs and shelter requirements, reducing both upgrade costs.
    “This new high power TWTA will enable satcom service providers to reduce operational costs while meeting demanding performance and reliability requirements,” said Walt Wood, CEO of Xicom Technology, in a statement.
