There certainly is a lot to talk about in the broadcasting market these days, and with NAB 2009 falling during a period that has seen announcements of massive telecommunication funding from the U.S. government and the digital TV switch coming in June, the show’s pace should be faster and busier than usual.
At the same time, there is a pending re-allocation of the 700 MHz spectrum — undoubtedly a top concern for broadcast TV, cable and satellite providers, and cellular network operators that could result in the shifting of development plans and growth strategy.
It also will be interesting to see if new mobile solutions providers will be playing a bigger role on the market stage and even more interesting to calculate the expanded presence of IPTVand 3D-based broadcasting products.
Not only will NAB be fast-paced, it will be aggressive. NAB recently revealed the results of a survey it gave to attendees, which showed that nearly 80 percent of pre-registered conference and exhibition attendees plan to buy products or services exhibited on the convention floor and nearly the same amount, 79 percent, said they plan to purchase products or services on-site or within 12 months of the show.
Regardless of whether or not the show lives up to its expectations — I’m personally very excited to see the 3D HD technology everyone has been raving about over the last year — it will be an exciting environment.
