[Satellite Today 04-16-09] Tandberg Television won a contribution deal with Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU), Egypt’s national broadcaster, to supply Tandberg’s MPEG-2 encoding solutions, Tandberg announced April 14.
The MPEG-2 encoders are part of ERTU’s efforts to expand its SDH microwave network covering the Red Sea and North Coast Sinai. The expanded network will interconnect more than 14 of ERTU’s contribution studios via wireless links, enabling the broadcaster to distribute MPEG-2 content between facilities.
ERTU is one of the Middle East’s largest television and radio producers and broadcasters, transmitting 11 satellite channels via Nilesat as well as nine local channels with a total viewing audience of about 60 million people.
