[Satellite Today 02-03-09] The board of directors at Gateway Broadcast Services, which runs the GTV DTH service in sub-Saharan Africa, approved a plan to liquidate the company, Gateway announced Jan. 30.
Gateway, a subsidiary of Gateway Communications, has been unable to secure further funding for the continued operation of its business due to the global financial crisis, the company said. The last round of financing, $35 million secured in September, brought the total capital invested into the GTV business to nearly $200 million in a two-year period.
The platform has nearly 100,000 subscribers in sub-Saharan Africa, but the service has now been withdrawn immediately in the 22 market in Africa it was available.
