[Satellite Today 01-27-09] Newtec, Arabsat and the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) have launched the Multimedia Exchange Network over Satellite (MENOS) in the Middle East, Newtec announced Jan. 26.
    MENOS allows ASBU’s 28 members to fully automate an exchange of television, radio and data with a full IP satellite-based service that can support all potential transmission applications required by broadcasters. The network also offers Voice Over IP, corporate virtual private networks and an integrated billing system.
    “The official launch of MENOS is an extremely important milestone for ourselves, the Arab region and the broadcasting industry as a whole,” Slaheddine Maaoui, director general of ASBU, said in a statement. “The MENOS service is not only a powerful international exchange platform for radio and television but a powerful IP-based service that is going to revolutionize broadcast transmissions.”
