[Satellite Today 12-10-08] Nigerian Communication Satellite and Chinese officials have held a series of meetings to discuss how to remedy the losses of customers whose business depended on the NigComSat-1 satellite, lost in November, according to The Guardian.
The cost of the satellite, built by China Great Wall Industry Corp., is estimated at $256 million. Initially, China contributed $200 million while the Nigerian Federal Government paid  $60 million.
The Guardian reported that the parties involved have agreed to remedial solutions that will be in place until NigComSat-1 is rebuilt and NigComSat-2 and NigComSat-3 are put in place as back up satellites. Solutions include the lease of at least 10 transponders from another communications satellite for NigComSat customers and China providing the lead fund for the replacement of the NigComSat-1 and the subsequent launch of the two backup satellites.
