[Satellite Today 12-01-08] Premiere, a German satellite pay-TV operator, has secured exclusive rights to a German professional soccer league, Premiere announced Nov. 28.
The deal has secured live pay-TV rights for all Bundesliga and second division Bundesliga games for Germany, Austria and Switzerland from the 2009-2010 to 2012-2013 seasons.
Under a direct contractual relationship with German football league DFL, Premiere has obtained the right to show all games live, in conference mode and in highlight shows. Premiere has secured the exclusive pay-TV rights to broadcast the games via cable and satellite and for the first time also as a live stream on the Internet.
The extended range of rights is reflected in higher licence fees ranging from approximately 225 million euros ($285.70 million) for the season 2009/2010 to approximately 275 million euros ($349.19 million) for the season 2012/2013. Premiere and the DFL have agreed to maintain confidentiality on the details of their contract.
