[Satellite Today 11-26-08] Gilat Satellite Networks unveiled its modular VSAT platform, SkyEdge 2 Access, enabling converged services such as broadband IP, voice, video and multicasting, the company announced Nov. 26. 
    The SkyEdge 2 Access provides satellite-based communications for business, government, maritime and rural deployments. Supporting high-speed inbound data rates of more than 6 megabits per second, the SkyEdge 2 Access aims to be a competitive solution for broadband IP networks with high-speed inbound requirements.
    The unit allows service providers to provide multiple telephony channels, digital signage, web TV, mesh and rapidly deployed Wi-Fi hot spots. Plug-in cards can be upgraded in the field by service providers or even by end users.
