[Satellite Today 11-06-08] Thaicom has opened its eleventh Ipstar gateway in the Philippines, the company said Nov. 6.
    During the opening ceremony, which took place at The Peninsula Hotel Manila, Thaicom also launched a new retail high-speed Internet package called ‘Ipstar BigSky’ for the Philippines market starting at $49 per month. The Philippines has a population of over 90 million people, and could be a good target market for satellite broadband.
    In addition to the retail broadband market, Ipstar will also target government projects, schools, and enterprises in The Philippines with the service.
    Dumrong Kasemset, executive chairman of Thaicom commented, “We are very delighted to officially open our eleventh Ipstar gateway and our eighth market in Asia-Pacific in The Philippines. This archipelago consisting of over 7,000 islands makes Ipstar an ideal solution to provide nationwide broadband services.
