[Satellite Today 10-23-08] LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent, provided a turnkey solution to the U.S. Geological Survey allowing the agency to turn over the 1.710 to 1.755 GHz spectrum in the San Francisco Bay area, LGS announced Oct. 23.
The spectrum was auctioned to the wireless industry in August 2006 for $13.8 billion as part of the advance wireless services program mandated by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
LGS said that while some modification to the infrastructure still needs to be completed, the relocation phase of the project was completed ahead of the defined schedule, enabling the Geological Survey to turn over spectrum early.
