[Satellite Today 10-17-08] Lufthansa Technik has completed integration of XipLink embedded wireless optimization software on their mobile access router, Xiplink announced. In addition, Satcom Direct has also developed an aircraft broadband service offering based on the Lufthansa Technik and XipLink technology. Satcom Direct has also installed the XipLink XA-Series appliances in their teleport in support of the AeroX optimized service.
Lufthansa Technik supplies the network integrated cabin equipment system that includes wireless passenger access to the Internet at speeds ranging from 64 Kbps to
more than 3 Mbps. The system includes an optimized high-speed router with embedded XipLink software that significantly increases, by a factor of 2x and higher, the
available bandwidth to each aircraft and operates over both L-Band and Ku-Band satellites.
By using integrated software optimization from XipLink, a technology developer of protocol acceleration and data compression over wireless networks, Lufthansa Technik said it has enhanced functionality to the mobile access router without the need to consume precious cabin space or burden the aircraft with additional weight.
