[Satellite Today 10-13-08] Arqiva used its content delivery network to distribute a full-length digital cinema feature via the Intelsat 905 satellite to Circuit George Raymond (CGR), one of France’s largest movie theatre chains, the company announced Oct. 13.
Working in partnership with Arts Alliance Media, Arqiva said it delivered the content directly to the library server at CGR’s megaplex site in Bordeaux, France. The 216 gigabyte file was transmitted and loaded onto the server without any operator intervention.
Barrie Woolston, commercial director at Arqiva commented, “Satellite transmission of digital films to cinemas is the future of distribution. By eliminating the need to physically ship content on hard drives and manually upload them onto cinema servers, our satellite-based content delivery network brings significant time and cost savings."
