Harmonic Inc. will supply additional encoders to DirecTV Inc. that will be used to expand the DTH operators high-definition (HD) national channel service, Harmonic announced.
     Harmonic will supply DiviCom Electra 7000 HD H.264 encoders and ProStream 1000 stream processing platform with DiviTrackIP statistical multiplexing solution. The one rack-unit platform delivers up to four full-resolution HD channels alongside four simultaneous low-resolution outputs for picture-in-picture, multi-channel mosaics and other applications.
    Electra 7000 encoders power more than 1,800 HD H.264 channels around the globe and support multiple HD formats, including 1080p video at 24 frames per second.
