[Satellite Today 08-21-08] JSAT has formed a joint venture with Stratos Global Corp. to serve the mobile satellite communications needs of Japanese businesses and government agencies, the companies announced Aug. 21.
JSAT Mobile Communications Inc. will bring Stratos’ portfolio of mobile satellite services, including Inmarsat and Iridium services, to the Japanese market. The joint venture expects to begin offering services to users who operate internationally by the end of the year and receive by the 2009 first quarter all necessary regulatory approvals to provide services in Japan and on Japanese-registered vessels and aircrafts.
"In JSAT Mobile, Japanese businesses will find a large local team that is intimately familiar with their requirements,” Stratos President and CEO Jim Parm said in a statement. “It will combine a dedication to the Japanese market with a strong sales and support network to ensure all MSS solutions are deployed quickly and cost efficiently."
