[Satellite Today – 4-2-08] GeoEye Inc. has signed a multi-year agreement to allow Mitsubishi Corp. subsidiary Japan Space Imaging Corp. to collect and sell Earth imagery from the GeoEye-1 satellite, GeoEye announced April 2.
GeoEye-1, which is scheduled to be launched in August, will be able to collect images with a ground resolution of less than 0.5 meters. The receiving antenna will be located in Okinawa and the processing facility will be located in Tokyo, incorporating Japan Space Imaging’s existing Ikonos facilities.
“GeoEye is delighted to be extending its 10-year business relationship with Mitsubishi Corp. to the next generation of high-resolution commercial imaging systems,” Matthew O’Connell, GeoEye’s CEO and president, said in a statement. “Our long-standing Ikonos partnership with Mitsubishi Corp. and [Japan Space Imaging] gives us great confidence in their ability to successfully develop the commercial and government markets for GeoEye-1 in the region.”
