[Satellite Today – 3-31-08] Globecomm Systems Inc. has been awarded multiple contracts from an unnamed U.S. government agency to provide portable satellite terminals as well as monitor and control software, the company announced March 31.

Under a contract valued at $13.7 million, Globecomm will provide several C- and Ku-band tactical portable satellite terminals and AxxSys Orion monitor and control software for network monitoring of several facilities. A second contract, valued at $3.2 million, is for Ku- and X-band terminals.

"Demand for the company’s portable satellite communications line of terminals remains strong,” Mike Plourde, vice president, government programs, said in a statement. “Globecomm’s [research and development] investment in X-band products is starting to generate new business, providing another variant to the Auto-Explorer product line. We intend to continue this investment in research and development as the government begins to move towards the growing use X- and Ka-band frequencies."
