[Satellite Today – 2-11-08] Eutelsat and Nissan Europe have donated a satellite communications-equipped four-wheel drive vehicle to Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF), the relief organization announced Feb. 8. The equipment will help TSF’s at disaster sites in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East and enable TSF to strengthen its response to emergency situations.
    The Nissan Patrol is has been fitted with a 1.2-meter satellite dish with an automatic pointing system and a D-Star broadband terminal in order to provide a suite of  communications services ranging from Internet access, Voice Over IP, fax and videoconferencing. The system will take less than 30 minutes to put into operation and can also be dismantled and set up as a fixed communications center.
    TSF, founded in 1998, supplies telecommunications capabilities for humanitarian aid teams in the aftermath of disasters and helps victims restore contact with the outside world.
