[11-02-07 – Satellite Today] BSkyB closed September with 8.7 million subscribers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, adding 83,000 subscribers in its most recent quarter, the company announced Nov. 2.
    In terms of high-definition services, BSkyB added 66,000 new subscribers to bring its total to nearly 360,000. The company’s Sky+ personal video recorder service is found in nearly 3 million households.
    Analysts were generally positive about BSkyB’s latest numbers. “BSkyB reported net adds of 83,000 versus our forecast of 75,000 and the top end of consensus at 80,000,” Nick Bell, a media equity analyst at Bear Stearns, said in a research note. “This was driven by a lower than expected churn rate of 11.3 percent and in line gross adds of 327,000.
