[10-16-07 – Satellite Today] EADS Astrium has awarded 10 prizes for employee initiatives to combat global warming using space systems, the company announced Oct. 16.

EADS Astrium received 380 proposals under a company-wide program initiated in May. A selection committee evaluated the ideas and identified 10 proposals under four topics: charting the thermal loss of buildings, measuring greenhouse gas emissions, capturing solar energy and transmitting it to Earth, and analyzing winds to reduce air traffic consumption.

The ideas will now be studied in depth to determine their technical and economical feasibility.
