[09-26-07 – Satellite Today] Radyne Corp. will supply equipment to upgrade Globalstar’s Simplex data service, the companies announced Sept. 25.
Under a $1.6 million contract, Radyne’s AeroAstro business unit will provide asset tracking satellite downlink decoder racks, spares kits and additional software upgrades for existing equipment deployed at Globalstar’s ground gateways. The equipment, known as sensor-enabled notification system appliqués, will be used to expand the geographic coverage of the Simplex service in Latin America and Asia. Software upgrades will increase system capacity and geographic reach.
The Simplex data network is used to support a variety of aviation flight-following, emergency asset, fleet and personal tracking applications. Deliveries of the hardware and software upgrades are scheduled to begin later this year and installations will be completed in early 2008.
