[08/17/07 – Satellite Today] EchoStar Communications Corp. unveiled its latest high-definition (HD) digital video recorder (DVR) designed to complement the company’s expanded HD programming offerings on its Dish Network, EchoStar announced Aug. 17.
The ViP722, an upgraded version of the ViP622 dual-tuner DVR, can record one channel in HD and a second in standard definition and offers a 500-gigabyte hard drive that can store up to 55 hours of HD programming.
The unit also has an external hard drive feature that allows customers to expand recording capacity by connecting an off-the-shelf hard disk drive to the DVR through a USB 2.0 ports.
The ViP722 is available for free to new customers, and the external hard drive feature has a one-time household activation fee of $39.99.
