SES Government Solutions has a new name. SES has revealed that it is changing the name to SES Space & Defense, a change in which it says reflects a new strategy and capability. SES announced the name change, Dec. 8, effective immediately.
The name change comes after combining SES Government Solutions with the recently acquired DRS Global Enterprise Solutions (DRS GES). The SES Space & Defense brand reflects the organization’s new positioning and expanded offering serving the needs of the U.S. Government customers. SES Space & Defense has been restructured to serve its customers across two integral markets — space and defense — by creating two business units, Space Initiatives and Defense Networks.
The Space Initiatives unit targets fleet-centric projects leveraging SES’s global multi-orbit satellite fleet, infrastructure, and assets. The Defense Networks unit is centered on multi-operator managed services and end-to-end mission-critical communications. SES Space & Defense’s customers will benefit from new integration capabilities with the addition of the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Ecosystem and ICT Portal which provides a single pane glass view into network performance, as well as essential tools in cybersecurity.
In other SES news, the company announced that Marlink, a key service provider in the satellite sector, is taking extra bandwidth to serve its customers in the energy sector. SES announced the deal, Dec. 8. The service now available to Marlink’s energy sector customers makes it possible for them to digitize rig operations, connect crew with ease and provide heavyweight applications such as videoconferencing, workflow tools and enterprise resource planning, in combination with data collection and proactive cyber security.
Since the beginning of 2022, Marlink and SES have been collaborating on seven major energy projects across Africa, providing a full hybrid network solution leveraging SES’s O3b satellites that will be upgraded next year to include SES’s second-generation medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites, O3b mPOWER.
